Easy DIY Baking Mix – Bisquick

The DIY Baking mix is a healthy and simple way to replace the preservatives in a commercial baking mix and still keep the convenience of a Bisquick type mix. When my kids were little, I purchased Bisquick to make pancakes, waffles, and biscuits for breakfast. I loved the convenience of the baking mix when I was rushed in the mornings and wanted to get the kids out the door to the bus.

When my kids were little, I purchased Bisquick to make pancakes, waffles, and biscuits for breakfast. I loved the convenience of the baking mix when I was rushed in the mornings and wanted to get the kids out the door to the bus. Now my kids are grown and gone, but I still like the convenience that a baking mix offers. This DIY baking mix has all the pluses without the preservatives.

How to make the DIY baking mix:

This baking mix has four simple ingredients; Flour, Salt, Baking Powder, and Shortening. Please don’t use the butter-flavored shortening as it is loaded with artificial ingredients.

Put all of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until the vegetable shortening is fully incorporated and the mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Store the DIY Baking Mix in an airtight container in the fridge. It will keep in the fridge for several months.  However, this isn’t a very large batch, about enough for two recipes.
