I used to love Starbuck Grande Mocha Coffee Frappuccino until they started posting the calories in their drinks. YIKES, I was shocked by the total number of calories. There are 380 Calories for a 16-ounce drink. My other favorite drink, the Mocha Java Chip Frappuccino, has 440 Calories for 16 ounces. I know I’m dating myself here as I was going to Starbucks before Starbucks began posting the calories in 2013. When I realized how many calories I was consuming in just one drink. I decided it was time to create my own Mocha Coffee Frappuccino.
My SIS (simple is smart) Way to Cut The Calories For a Mocha Coffee Frappuccino?
The SIS way to make a Mocha coffee frappuccino low calorie is to substite low-fat milk for the whole milk. Use a no-calorie sweetener, and skip the whipped cream on top. The total calories in this frappuccino are less than 100 calories for a 16-ounces of delicious Mocha Coffee Frappuccino. Now that is what I call SIS! I could drink two frappuccinos and still consume less than half of the calories of a Starbucks Mocha Java Chip Frappuccino.
How Do I Make a Mocha Coffee Frappuccino?
Easy when you have a blender powerful enough to crush ice to a slushy consistency. I use a Margaritaville. However, I have also used a Vitamix, and I think a Ninja and Blendtec would also work. The key is to fill the blender jar almost full, and have a tight-fitting lid. Otherwise, the concoction turns into a coffee froth and leaks out of the top of the blender jar. A doubled piece of plastic wrap between the lid and the blender jar is an excellent way to prevent leaks.
The Mocha Coffee Frappuccinos’ main ingredient is cold coffee. Make 24 ounces of strong brewed coffee the day before and refrigerate it. Add the milk, creamer, half and half, chocolate syrup, sweetener, and ice to the coffee in a blender jar. Make sure the lid has a tight seal. Blend until the drink is the consistency of a slushy. Pour into tall glasses, add a straw and enjoy. Feeling decadent? Add a topping of whipped cream. YUM, but this also doubles the calories.

- powerful blender like a ninja or blendtec.
- 24 oz cold strong-brewed coffee (708g)
- 3 cups ice cubes (450g)
- 2 tbsp half and half
- 2 tbsp flavored coffee creamer
- 1 tbsp chocolate syrup
- 1½ cups low-fat milk (350g)
- ¼ cup simple syrup (60g)
- whipped cream on top (optional and adds 100 calories)
- Put all the ingredients in a powerful blender and blend until ice is completely crushed to slushy consistancy. Seal the top of the blender with some stretch tight under the lid to keep it from leaking. I blend the drink for about 1 minute.
- Pour into 3 tall glasses and top with whipped cream. Serve immediately
